Tantalus Vineyards 2014 Blanc de Noir
Canadian Sparkling
Pale rose-gold in colour, this traditional-method sparkling Pinot Noir brings strawberry, sour cherry, cranberry, pink grapefruit, mandarin, almond and lemon brioche. Red berries, apple, mandarin and toast appear on the palate. Fruit came from a Clone 93 block planted in the mid-eighties. The wine spent six months in neutral oak. Bottle fermentation used the traditional method, and lees ageing lasted two years.

Pale gold colour and plentiful small bubbles accompany green apple, citrus zest, fresh apricot and floral notes. The palate is light-bodied and balanced, with lemon acidity, ripe apple and a citrus-and-green-apple close. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier make up the non-vintage blend. The mousse is creamy and sustained. Quince is also present, and the finish is long.

Classical sparkling production includes hand picking, gentle whole-bunch pressing, cool fermentation, malolactic fermentation and bottle fermentation, followed by extended lees ageing. The mousse is creamy, with texture, richness and lively freshness.

The organically certified vines grow on clay, flint and limestone soils, and the wine is classified as Vin de France.
