Kettle Valley 2011 Old Main Red
Blackcurrant and vanilla aromas join currant, blackberry, plum and fig flavours, followed by soft, silky tannins. The Bordeaux-style blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot from the Old Main vineyard with Petit Verdot and Malbec from the King Drive vineyard. Fruit was hand-picked between November 1 and 5. The wine completed malolactic fermentation and spent twenty-one months in French oak before bottling.
D. Marioni 2019 Bordo Red
Fruit and ripe plum appear with vegetal notes in this bold California red. Merlot and Malbec are blended with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Fruit comes from the Yorkville Highlands in Mendocino County. The grapes are destemmed and fermented in open-top vessels with manual punch-downs. The wine is pressed to neutral barrels, aged for ten months and racked once. Alcohol is fourteen percent.
Julien Pineau 2021 Parce Que
Black cherry, cassis, nuts and cassis-jam character are present. Tannins are also present, with astringency in the finish. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon are macerated separately before fermentation and maturation. The organically farmed fruit comes from several French growers. Sulphur totals fifteen milligrams per litre, alcohol is thirteen percent, and the wine is classified as a French red.
Orofino 2014 Beleza
Black cherry, vanilla, blackcurrant, espresso and dark chocolate shape the profile. The blend is sixty percent Merlot, twenty percent Cabernet Sauvignon and ten percent each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine spends twenty months in French and American oak, followed by two years of bottle age before release. It is the winery’s flagship red from the Similkameen Valley.
Trerè 2022 Amarcord d’un Ross Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva
Tart and ripe red fruit meet black fruit, thyme and rosemary, with vibrant acidity and a crunchy texture. The blend combines 85 percent Sangiovese with 15 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel before maturation in French oak. The vines average about twenty years old, and selected fruit is harvested by hand in early October.
Laughing Stock 2018 Blind Trust Red
Blackberry, dark cherry and baking spice accompany a ripe, rich aroma, while soft tannins shape the medium-bodied palate. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot form the blend. Fruit is hand picked, with clusters and berries sorted. Fermentation uses stainless-steel and French-oak vessels, followed by extended maceration and fifteen months of maturation in French oak.
House of Brown 2021 Red Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir form an eighty-to-twenty blend. The translucent ruby wine combines hibiscus, tea rose, pomegranate and maraschino cherry with cinnamon, clove and lavender. Its light-bodied profile brings crisp acidity, fruit, spice and a lingering finish. Fruit comes from Lodi and the Cosumnes River area, and the finished wine is identified as sustainably produced and vegan.
Vignobles Lassagne 2023 Le Repaire Lussac-Saint-Émilion
Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot are used in equal proportions. The red has tangy freshness, pure fruit and creamy, fine, velvety tannins on a medium-bodied palate. Maturation takes place in concrete vats, and alcohol is thirteen and a half percent. The family property dates to nineteen fifty-two and covers forty-eight hectares across Bordeaux, Lussac-Saint-Émilion and Lalande-de-Pomerol.
Ovorra 2022 Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon
Blackcurrant, ripe plum and dark cherry form a concentrated aromatic profile. Vanilla, cedar and warm spice are also present. The Cabernet Sauvignon spends a year in French oak. It is intense and structured, while the palate is powerful and composed. The tannins are firm and polished, and the finish is long and expressive. Fruit comes from the Maipo Valley in Chile.
Clos Berenguer 2020 Clos de Tafall Priorat
Grenache, Cariñena, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon form the red blend, with fruit drawn from estate vineyards around El Molar. Ripe fruit appears with balsamic detail, aromatic herbs and light toast. Smoke, stone and iron accompany strawberry preserves, red liquorice, violet and cured tobacco. The palate has volume and balance, with chalky tannins providing weight and focus. The finish is long and persistent.
Cantina Gaffino 2023 Il Buon Bastardo Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon grows on volcanic clay soils at a density of 6,300 vines per hectare. Harvest falls in the final third of September. Cold pre-fermentation maceration lasts twelve hours at ten degrees Celsius, followed by twenty-four days on the skins. Maturation includes six months in barriques and a further six months in bottle. The profile is balanced and includes tannins.
Laberinto 2021 Cenizas Mezcla Tinta
Ripe black cherry, blackberry, blueberry and cassis appear with eucalyptus, violets and subtle oak. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon come from a hand-harvested, organically farmed vineyard in Colbún with volcanic soil. Native-yeast fermentation follows a three-day cold maceration, with twenty-two days of total maceration. The wine spends fourteen months in used French barrels and is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
A Sunday in August 2022 Cabernet OK
Wild dark blackberry, black cherry, currant and cassis appear with pepper spice. The organically farmed fruit comes from Okanagan Falls, and Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with Merlot. Natural fermentation, a ten-day semi-carbonic maceration and neutral-oak maturation are used. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered with thirty milligrams per litre of sulphur. Production totals 125 cases.
Giramundo 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon
Blackberry, dark cherry and cassis accompany mint leaf, black pepper and cocoa nib. Concentrated black fruit appears with dark chocolate, vanilla and a herbaceous note. The finish is firm and lingering, with smooth tannins, mint and dark fruit. The grapes come from Eugenio Bustos in Mendoza’s Uco Valley, and the wine is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon.
Terre del Ving 2016 Eretico Montescudaio Cabernet
Cabernet Sauvignon anchors this red under the Montescudaio Cabernet designation. Podere Borgaruccio lies in the Pisan hills near Volterra, where five hectares of vineyards form part of a thirteen-hectare estate. The vines grow on clay- and limestone-rich soils. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic, and the wine is classified as natural. Stefano Gonnelli created Terre del Ving as a small Tuscan project.
Tenuta Argentiera 2011 Villa Donoratico Bolgheri Rosso
Subdued aromas of dried blueberry, leather, espresso, oak and exotic spice accompany blackberry, graphite and liquorice. The tannins are lithe. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot make up the blend. The vineyard lies between 30 and 80 metres, with continental sands and flysch composed of limestone, marl, clay, sandstone and siliceous rock. The site is planted at 6,000 vines per hectare.
Jordi Llorens 2021 Blankaforti
Cherry, pomegranate and a touch of liquorice accompany ripe fruit. The palate is juicy and fresh, with supple tannins and a light spritz when first opened. Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Syrah grow on limestone in Catalonia. The wine is made without fining or filtration and without added sulphur. It is a red wine from Conca de Barberà.
Clot de les Soleres 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Àmfora
Dark fruit, cinnamon, cacao and pine appear in this red wine from Penedès. It is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are harvested by hand in boxes and destemmed immediately. The must macerates with skins for twenty days before draining without pressing. Fermentation finishes in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and the wine spends at least eleven months in amphora.
Carpineto 2007 Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon
Smoked meat, spice, dark fruit, blackberry and leather appear with polished tannins and length. The wine is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Tuscany. Grapes come from the Gaville and Chianciano-Montepulciano vineyards. Parcels are vinified separately, then blended after malolactic fermentation. Maturation includes ten to twelve months in small oak barriques and at least eight months in bottle.
Capezzana 2007 Villa di Capezzana Carmignano
Cherries and savoury red liquorice meet black plum, spice and tobacco. The palate is rich and warm, with a long, intense finish. The blend is eighty percent Sangiovese and twenty percent Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit comes from a west- and southwest-facing site with clay and schist over limestone. The estate covers 104 hectares and belongs to the Contini Bonacossi family.
Vignobles Lassagne 2023 Le Big Boss Lussac-Saint-Émilion Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep purple in colour, with intense fruit and spice. The palate is round and powerful, with silky tannins, red fruit and blackcurrant. The wine is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grown on fifty-year-old vines in clay-limestone soil. It matures for eight months in cement tanks. The vineyard is in conversion to organic farming, and the wine contains thirteen-and-a-half percent alcohol.
Kin & Cascadia 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
Green pepper, garden herb and orange peel meet smoke and mesquite. The medium-bodied palate adds silky tannins, bright red berries and savoury tones, with Bing cherry, red currant, sweet tobacco, milk chocolate and a floral note. Fruit comes from the Wahluke Slope in Washington, where the vineyards grow on sandy soils. Alcohol is thirteen and a half percent.
Château du Vallier 2018 Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux
Ruby colour with violet reflections accompanies rich black fruit and young tannins. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec make up the red blend. The bouquet combines fruit and wood, while the palate is dense and tannic. The wine is matured in barrel and carries thirteen and a half percent alcohol. Production amounted to fifty-five thousand bottles.
La Massa 2012 Toscana IGT
Sangiovese makes up sixty percent of the blend, with twenty percent Cabernet Sauvignon; the remaining twenty percent combines Merlot and Alicante Bouschet. Fermentation is spontaneous, with punchdowns, pumping through peristaltic pumps and temperature control. The wines mature in French oak barrels, twenty percent new. Grapes were harvested from mid-September through the first half of October, and bottling took place in May.
Suvla 2010 Sur Red Blend
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot make up the blend. An inky core with browning at the edges accompanies plum, purple fruit, sour plum, prune, bitter coffee, cassis, toasted oak and Christmas-cake spice. The fruit is grown on the family estate on the Gallipoli Peninsula, and maturation lasts twelve months in new French oak.
Scopone 2021 Rimani Toscana Rosso IGT
Dark ruby colour accompanies blackberry, cherry, plum, blackcurrant, cocoa, coffee, roasted spice and subtle vanilla. The palate is smooth, round and enveloping, with firm polished tannins and a long savoury finish. Cabernet Sauvignon accounts for half of the blend, Sangiovese for twenty percent, while Merlot and Syrah together make up the remaining thirty percent. Alcohol is 14.5 percent.
Château Tour Saint Bonnet 2018 Médoc
Refined crushed-berry fruit appears with cassis and subtle oak. The palate is full-bodied, with grainy tannins and balanced structure. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot form the blend. Fermentation takes place in traditional cement tanks, followed by eighteen months in large oak foudres. The vineyard occupies gravel soils near Saint-Christoly in the northern Médoc.
Meerlust 2006 Rubicon Stellenbosch
Deep purple-red in colour, the wine offers violet, ripe plum, cedar and spice. Fresh dark fruit fills a full-bodied, structured palate, with rounded linear tannins. The blend contains seventy-four percent Cabernet Sauvignon, eighteen percent Cabernet Franc and eight percent Merlot. Malolactic fermentation was completed in barrel, and maturation lasted twenty-four months in French oak, including sixty-five percent new Nevers barrels.
BLK + BLU 2023 Blend No. 4 Shiraz Cabernet
Inky purple-red in colour, the wine has raspberry and cherry-candy aromas. Black raspberry, blueberry and black cherry appear with spice, mint, eucalyptus and a hint of oak. The palate is youthful and rich, with slippery tannins and balanced structure. Shiraz accounts for fifty-four percent of the blend, while Cabernet Sauvignon makes up the remaining forty-six percent. Alcohol reaches fourteen and a half percent.
Castello Di Bolgheri 2022 Flocco Toscana IGT
Fresh red and blue fruit appears with a savoury undertone. The texture is silky, with moderate tannins and a touch of dryness. Sangiovese makes up eighty percent of the blend, with ten percent each Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fermentation lasts fourteen to eighteen days in concrete tanks. The wine then spends twelve months in 500-litre barrels.
