Champagne Thiénot Brut NV
Pale gold colour and plentiful small bubbles accompany green apple, citrus zest, fresh apricot and floral notes. The palate is light-bodied and balanced, with lemon acidity, ripe apple and a citrus-and-green-apple close. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier make up the non-vintage blend. The mousse is creamy and sustained. Quince is also present, and the finish is long.
Howling Bluff Estate Winery 2022 Century Block Pinot Noir
Kirsch, blackcurrant and raspberry appear with leather, forest floor and pepper. Pinot Noir clones 667 and 777 grow beside the wine shop in the riverbed of the now-dry Three Mile Creek. The block’s name refers to the hundred different species that once grew there. Maturation lasts eighteen months in French oak barrels. Production totalled 250 cases, and the wine can be cellared for up to ten years.
Howling Bluff Estate Winery 2022 Three Mile Creek Pinot Noir
Tobacco, ripe cherry, pepper and clove appear with mulled berries, blackcurrant and baking spices. Pinot Noir clones 667 and 777 come from the Three Mile Creek vineyard, whose oldest vines grow only five metres from the Century Block. Maturation lasts eighteen months in French oak barrels. Production totalled 305 cases. The vineyard has received two Lieutenant Governor’s Awards of Excellence and a Red Wine of the Year from the Canadian Wine Awards.
Howling Bluff Estate Winery 2021 Three Mile Creek Pinot Noir
Sour cherry and raspberry form a tart, cool red-fruit profile with savoury and earthy notes. The vines include Pinot Noir clones 115, 667 and 777 and were twenty-two years old when reviewed. Fruit receives a two-day cold soak. After three weeks, the wine is pressed into French oak barrels and aged there for eighteen months. Further acidic fruit appears on the finish.
Ken Wright Cellars 2022 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
Red and blue fruits, cedar, violet, anise and turned earth form the profile. The palate is balanced, with natural acidity and velvety tannins. Pinot Noir comes from vineyards in the northern Willamette Valley sub-appellations. The vineyards include marine-sediment and volcanic-rock soils and are organically certified. Maturation takes place in stainless steel and neutral French oak. Alcohol is thirteen point two percent.
Ochota Barrels 2018 Texture Like Sun
Forest fruit, spice and liquorice are present. The profile is supple, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. The blend includes Pinot Noir, Grenache, Gamay, Mourvèdre, Pinot Meunier, Gewürztraminer, Fragola, Riesling and Chardonnay. Fruit from certified-organic vines grows on clay over limestone. The grapes are destemmed and undergo a five-day cold soak. Some varieties are co-fermented, while others ferment separately. After basket pressing, the wine rests in stainless steel before blending and bottling. It is vegan.
Arrowleaf Cellars 2021 Archive Pinot Noir Okanagan Valley
Dark cherry, tobacco, earth, rose petal and subtle integrated oak are present. Grapes from the Wendell, Ritchie and estate vineyards are destemmed and partially crushed. A low dose of cultured yeast is used alongside early wild-yeast activity. Malolactic fermentation and twelve months of ageing take place in French oak. The palate is rich and concentrated, with a long complex finish. The wine is vegan.
Sage Hayward 2023 Estate Pinot Noir
Fruit comes from Falcon Ridge and Raven Hill vineyards on Saturna Island. The site lies in the Southern Gulf Islands, where a cool maritime climate meets dense sand and mudstone over clay with ancient marine sediment. The wine is rich and medium-bodied, with a lingering spicy finish. Pinot Noir is hand-picked from estate vines, and the first plantings on the property date to nineteen ninety-five.
Domaine Rougeot 2022 La Piquette Bourgogne Passetoutgrains
Pinot Noir and Gamay ferment naturally in a large open cask. Maturation lasts about nine months, and the wine is bottled without fining or filtration. Ripe red and black fruit sit with thyme, tea, rose and wet earth. The palate is fresh and fruity, with body and fine tannins. The wine is red, carries the Bourgogne Passetoutgrain designation and contains twelve percent alcohol.
Bressia 2020 Piel Negra Pinot Noir
Red cherry, blackberry, ripe tomato, rose and violet are present. Cinnamon, rosemary and mint sit with coffee, vanilla and smoke. The wine has firm structure and a full texture. It is made entirely from Pinot Noir grown in Mendoza’s Uco Valley and spends twenty-four months in new French-oak barrels. Alcohol is 14.5 percent by volume.
La Frenz 2020 Aster Brut
Chardonnay makes up two thirds of the blend, with Pinot Noir accounting for one third. Toast and autolytic notes sit with singed citrus fruit. The wine has low dosage, balance and a long finish. It is made by the traditional method in the Okanagan Valley. This white sparkling wine is produced from estate-grown fruit in British Columbia.
Domaine A.F. Gros 2010 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits
Delicate red fruit and grilled wood accompany cherry, cocoa, rose and spice. The tannins are round. Earth and dark berries sit with detailed, energetic, middleweight flavours and mineral notes. The finish is balanced, and the structure is ripe. The wine matured in barrel, and production totalled 10,415 bottles. Pinot Noir comes from the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits.
August Kesseler 2021 The Daily August Pinot Noir Trocken Rheingau
Subtle cherry and blueberry sit with cassis and red pepper. Made from Pinot Noir, this dry red comes from the Rheingau. The producer uses classic maceration and barrique maturation for its Pinot Noir range and describes this cuvée in terms of fruit radiance and finesse. Alcohol is fourteen percent, and the 750-millilitre bottle uses a screw cap. The wine is classified as vegan-friendly.
Emandare Vineyard 2023 Wolff Vineyard Pinot Noir
Red cherry, cranberry, wild rose, mushroom, subtle apple and dusty minerality shape the profile. The palate has a clean texture. Pinot Noir comes from thirty-five-year-old vines and is fermented and aged in neutral French oak. Bottling takes place without fining or filtration. Cellar work follows a minimal-intervention approach. The old-vine site is in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
Domaine Louis Jadot 2015 Monthélie Les Sous Roches
Pinot Noir grows on an east-facing, 1.16-hectare site with clay and stones at the surface. Grapes are hand-harvested into small cases, sorted by hand and destemmed. Maceration lasts three to four weeks in open wooden or stainless-steel vats, with twice-daily punching down during fermentation. Maturation lasts about eighteen months in barrel, with around one third new oak. The wine comes from a village appellation in the Côte de Beaune.
Beckham Estate 2021 Olivia’s Pinot Noir Rosé
Pinot Noir from a dry-farmed estate vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains is fermented in amphora and aged in neutral barrel. Pale blush colour and a light body accompany strawberry, cherry blossom and racy acidity. The terra-cotta vessels used in the cellar are made by hand in the vineyard studio. The wine is an Oregon rosé.
Wasenhaus 2022 Grand Ordinaire
Fresh herbs, tobacco leaves, bright red cherry and fresh leather accompany this dry natural red from Baden. The palate has fresh acidity and tannins, with cherry and red plum. Spätburgunder undergoes carbonic maceration and is pressed after ten days, while fermentation is spontaneous. The wine contains twelve and a half percent alcohol. Air softens the palate and brings greater balance.
Clos du Tue-Boeuf 2018 La Caillère Cheverny
Predominantly Pinot Noir with a smaller share of Gamay, this red comes from a 1.3-hectare parcel of silex and clay in Cheverny. The vines averaged about thirty-five years of age when documented, and the wine spends around one year in neutral 400-litre barrels. The profile is fresh, clean and aromatic, with reductive and herbaceous character.
Heidi Schröck & Söhne 2021 Tour de Rosé
Berry and cherry fruit notes accompany rose petals, lavender and sage. The wine is modestly tangy, with delicate saline elements and harmonious acidity. The blend includes Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Sankt Laurent, Syrah, Merlot, Lagrein, Teroldego, Petit Verdot and Pinot Noir. This dry rosé comes from Burgenland in Austria. The finished wine contains 13.5 percent alcohol.
Meyer Family Vineyards 2023 McLean Creek Road Vineyard Pinot Noir
Bing cherry, black raspberry, beetroot, pepper and toasted oak form the profile. The fruit is gently destemmed by gravity into open-top fermenters with twenty-five percent whole clusters. A cold soak precedes a two-week indigenous-yeast fermentation with gentle hand plunging. After fermentation and a post-maceration period, the wine moves to French oak, twenty percent new, for eleven months. It is unfined and coarsely filtered, with ripe fruit and a lasting finish.
Idun 2022 L’Intemporelle Cap Classique Brut Nature
Lemon zest, green apple, crushed oyster shell and delicate flowers appear in a taut profile. The palate is dry and chiselled, with a fine bead, salinity, length and linear mineral character. The blend is seventy percent Pinot Noir and thirty percent Chardonnay from a single vineyard at 300 metres. Ten percent of the base wine fermented in seasoned French oak and the remainder in stainless steel. The wine spent thirty-one months on lees and was disgorged without dosage.
Idun 2022 L’Impassible Cap Classique Brut
Citrus blossom, red apple, crushed raspberry and toasted brioche shape the bouquet. Lemon zest and almond accompany a fine mousse, crisp acidity and a long mineral finish. The blend is seventy percent Pinot Noir and thirty percent Chardonnay from a single vineyard at 300 metres. Eight percent of the base wine fermented in seasoned French oak, with the balance in stainless steel. The wine spent thirty-one months on lees.
Koehler-Ruprecht 2020 Spätburgunder Kabinett Trocken
Wild raspberry, cherry, red currant, plum, forest floor, mushroom, liquorice and clove shape this Pinot Noir. The vines grow around Kallstadt on gravelly sandstone and loess over limestone. Natural fermentation occurs in steel, with pressing after four to six weeks. Ageing uses old oval barrels and old barriques. Red berries, earth, fresh acidity, fine tannins and spice are also present.
Domaine Chevrot et Fils 2020 Pivoine Coteaux Bourguignons
Raspberry, cranberry, red currant, strawberry, spice, violets and stony mineral notes shape this light, fresh red. Pinot Noir and Gamay are placed as whole bunches in neutral vats. The palate combines vibrant acidity with fine tannins, red fruit and light texture. Minimal sulphur and intervention are used during élevage, and spice is present on the finish.
50th Parallel Estate 2022 Pinot Noir Rosé Magnum 1.5 L
This dry rosé is made from Pinot Noir grown specifically for the style. The Lake Country estate covers sixty-one acres across thirteen vineyard blocks near Lake Okanagan, with Pinot Noir central to its production. The wine comes from British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, was bottled in 1.5-litre format and received a silver medal at the All Canadian Wine Championships.
La Sœur Cadette 2022 Bourgogne Rouge
Red fruit, dried flowers, rosewood and spice appear in a medium-bodied, dry profile with present acidity and a delicate mouthfeel. Pinot Noir comes equally from the northern Mâconnais and Volnay. The fruit is farmed organically and vinified with minimal intervention and very little sulphur. The palate begins easily and finishes with pleasant bitterness. The wine contains twelve point three percent alcohol.
Kutatás 2023 Whole Cluster Pinot Noir Vancouver Island
Stewed black cherry, cola, raspberry, liquorice, herbal and savoury notes shape this Pinot Noir. Clone 114 fruit comes from Patricia Bay in North Saanich on Vancouver Island. The dry-farmed vines grow in clay soil. Whole bunches ferment spontaneously and remain on skins for six weeks. Ageing takes place in two- to four-year-old French oak barrels, and the wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Champagne Ayala Brut Majeur NV 375 mL
Light gold colour and fine bubbles accompany citrus, white flowers and white fruit. The palate is fresh, balanced, precise and fruity. Chardonnay accounts for fifty-five percent of the blend, with thirty percent Pinot Noir and fifteen percent Meunier. Seventy crus from six Champagne territories are vinified separately in small stainless-steel tanks, and the wine spends an average of three years on its lees.
Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut NV 375 mL
Pale gold colour and very fine bubbles form a persistent mousse. Fresh citrus, white flowers, vineyard peach and white fruit appear with freshness and finesse. The blend contains more than fifty percent Chardonnay, thirty to thirty-five percent Pinot Noir and ten to fifteen percent Meunier, drawn from more than one hundred crus with fifteen to thirty percent reserve wines and four years of ageing.
Averill Creek 2024 Okeanós Pinot Noir & Gewürztraminer Co-Ferment
White flowers, Nashi pear and apple skin meet delicate salinity, fresh acidity and a rich, creamy texture. Whole-bunch Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer are soaked in Salish Sea water, then drained, pressed and wild-fermented in older French oak. Nothing is added or removed. The fruit comes from Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, and the finished wine contains twelve percent alcohol.
