Twin Island Cider
AboutTwin Island Cider
In 2016, cidermakers Matthew Vasilev and Katie Selbee partnered with Sandra MacPherson and Noel Hall to create Twin Island Cider on South Pender Island. Early basket-press batches with family and friends grew into a year-round cidery.
The team tends old orchards on Pender and neighbouring Gulf Islands, harvesting fruit from dozens of century-old plantings. Apples and pears are pressed on the island and fermented only with native yeasts. The range includes perry, made from pears, and naturally sparkling pétillant-naturel bottlings.
Twin Island Cider Perry Can
Made entirely from heirloom pears gathered from old orchards on Pender Island, this perry is wild fermented and can-conditioned for natural bubbles. The exact product description records zero added sulphites and identifies pears as the sole fruit. Orchard origin, wild fermentation and conditioning in the can provide the full documented production account for this naturally sparkling British Columbia perry.
Twin Island 2023 Creston Perry on Ortega
Heirloom pears from a 120-year-old Kootenay orchard are fermented on white-wine grape skins from Pender Island, bringing together orchard fruit and aromatic lift. The profile shows grapefruit, lychee and elderflower. Five months of bulk ageing precede bottle conditioning, where yeast and sugar create the natural bubbles. Pear fruit, floral detail and lively effervescence define the resulting perry.
Twin Island Quincette Can
Pender Island-grown Sieggerebbe grape skins are co-fermented with fresh local quince and crabapples, then pressed and conditioned in can. Indigenous fermentation, no added sulphur, and an unfined, unfiltered finish preserve the fruit’s lively, low-intervention character. Expect tart orchard fruit, gentle grape-skin texture and natural refreshment. Serve chilled with aged cheese, roast chicken, pork terrine or savoury pastries.
Twin Island Red Piquette 355ml
Skins from Agria, Castel and Concord grapes are given a second life with Pender-grown haskap berries, producing a naturally fermented red piquette. The palate is full flavoured yet refreshing, with dark berry fruit, gentle grape-skin structure and lively bubbles. Native yeast and the light extraction of the style keep it vivid and easy to drink. Serve chilled with charcuterie, roast chicken, pizza or hard cheese.
Twin Island Field Blend Cider 473ml
Apples gathered from more than six dry-farmed, unsprayed backyard orchards across Pender Island are brought together in a naturally expressive field blend. Many of the contributing trees date from the early to mid twentieth century. Slow fermentation gives a dry, apple-forward palate, while lively bubbles keep the structure fresh and highly drinkable. Serve chilled with charcuterie, roast pork, aged cheddar or savoury pastries.
Twin Island Carbonic Quince Cider 473ml
Salt Spring Island quince undergoes extended carbonic maceration before being pressed and co-fermented with Gulf Island apples. Wild fermentation and conditioning in can create natural bubbles, framing an exuberantly fragrant, dry and luscious expression of the fruit. The palate is vivid and aromatic, with quince richness held in check by fresh apple structure. Serve chilled with roast pork, hard cheese, charcuterie or savoury pastries.
Twin Island Hedgerow Cider 500ml
Native fermentation and a period on blackberries, currants and haskap berries give this dry cider a vivid, rose-hued character. Tart red and dark fruit runs through a base of heritage and traditional cider apples, bringing juicy freshness alongside a lightly rustic orchard edge. The finish is brisk, savoury and clean, with enough structure for the table. Serve lightly chilled with roast duck, pork terrine, washed-rind cheese or mushroom dishes.
Twin Island Westwind Road Cider 750ml
Made from apples gathered along the small Pender Island road where one of the cidermakers grew up, this is a distinctly place-led bottling. Its character begins with the fruit and the old island trees behind it, giving the cider a genuine sense of local history. Serve chilled at the table with roast chicken, pork, firm cheese or savoury pastry.
Twin Island Cider North End Pét-Nat
Ripe King apple gives a juicy orchard core, framed by bright acidity and natural bubbles. Fruit from dry-farmed, century-old trees brings a savoury, lightly rustic depth, while the pét-nat method keeps the palate energetic and direct. The finish is dry, fresh and gently textured. Serve chilled with roast pork, aged cheddar, charcuterie or savoury pastry.
Twin Island Cider Liberty Noir 750ml
Dry apple skin and a rosé-like red-fruit character meet musty grape-skin notes and a measured touch of funk. The palate is gently textured and complex, with savoury fruit held in balance by a firm, dry line. Black pepper appears on the finish, adding lift and definition. Serve chilled with charcuterie, roast chicken, mushrooms or firm cheese.
Twin Island Cider Hornby Island Cider
Dry apple skin and hay lead, with a musty, lightly funky edge giving the mature orchard fruit a rustic character. The palate is full-bodied and tart, carrying firm fruit through a savoury, persistent finish. Low-intervention production keeps the profile direct and expressive. Serve chilled with roast pork, aged cheddar, mushroom dishes or a hearty savoury pie.
Twin Island Cider Bittersharps Pét-Nat
Tart orchard apple leads with bright acidity and a firm tannic grip, reflecting the bittersharp fruit at the core. Méthode ancestrale bottle conditioning brings natural sparkle and keeps the palate crisp and lively. The finish is focused, structured and savoury rather than soft. Serve chilled with roast pork, grilled sausages, sharp cheddar or rich savoury pastry.
Twin Island Cider Kouf Orchard Pét-Nat
Crisp apple skin leads, joined by an earthy orchard note and a measured touch of barnyard complexity. The palate is nearly bone dry, with natural bubbles and brisk acidity giving the fruit a clean, energetic shape. A lightly rustic finish keeps the style expressive without becoming heavy. Serve well chilled with charcuterie, roast chicken, aged cheddar or mushroom dishes.
Twin Island Cider South Pender Pét-Nat
Bright orchard apple leads with zippy acidity, generous body and a light tannic frame. Natural bottle fermentation gives the palate lively sparkle, while fruit from old South Pender orchards adds a savoury, gently rustic edge. The finish stays fresh and focused, with enough structure for the table. Serve chilled with roast pork, sharp cheddar, grilled sausages or vegetable tart.
Twin Island Cider Old Orchard Trinity
Quince, pear and apple come together in a fruit-forward, naturally sparkling blend. The palate moves between subtle sweetness, savoury orchard character and fine tannin, with spontaneous fermentation adding depth without overwhelming the fruit. A clean line of acidity keeps the finish balanced and lively. Serve chilled with roast pork, hard cheese, pear salad or quince-glazed poultry.
Twin Island Cider Bittersweet Keeve
Ripe bittersweet apple leads with a savoury, lightly saline character and gentle natural sweetness. The palate is rounded but not heavy, with tannin from classic English cider varieties giving shape to the fruit. Slow, repeated racking preserves freshness while building quiet complexity through the finish. Serve lightly chilled with roast pork, aged cheddar, savoury crêpes or apple tart.
Twin Island Cider Grape Friends Pét-Nat
Grape must and red fruit meet crisp apple skin, with a lightly wild, savoury edge adding complexity. The palate is bone dry and energetic, carrying natural, Champagne-like bubbles through a taut fruit-wine frame. A touch of barnyard and leather stays measured against the fresh fruit. Serve well chilled with charcuterie, grilled vegetables, roast chicken or firm cheese.
Twin Island Cider Traditional Method Perry
Crisp pear skin and lemon zest lead, followed by wild-yeast complexity and a light creamy note. Traditional-method bottle conditioning brings lively, Champagne-like bubbles, while the palate stays bright, bone dry and cleanly focused. A subtle earthy edge gives the finish extra depth without obscuring the fruit. Serve chilled with oysters, fresh goat cheese, roast chicken or pear salad.
Twin Island Cider Late Season Keeve
Rich orchard fruit and a softly funky edge are balanced by lively effervescence, refreshing acidity and fine, lingering tannin. Traditional keeving gives the cider gentle natural sweetness without sacrificing precision, while late-ripening heirloom apples bring depth and savoury complexity. Serve lightly chilled with aged cheddar, roast pork, autumn squash or a fruit-led dessert with warm ginger spice.
Twin Island 2024 Purple Crush
Bright red fruit and dark grape notes lead a softly sparkling, carbonic style with a juicy, gently creamy mouthfeel. Low tannin and modest acidity keep the palate relaxed and immediately drinkable, while a light savoury edge prevents it from feeling simple. Serve well chilled with charcuterie, pizza or grilled vegetables.
