Domaine Xavier Gérard 2022 Côte-Rôtie
French Red
Licorice root and brambly blackberry lead the exact-vintage record, followed by crunchy blueberry and dark plum. Savoury old oak, cracked pepper and a touch of game add further detail. The finish is described as long, savoury and grippy, with those same dark-fruited, spicy and meaty elements continuing through an intensely flavoured aftertaste. Dark fruit, spice and game remain central throughout.
Vignobles Levet 2014 Côte-Rôtie Améthyste
French Wine
Blueberry, red plum, cassis and blackberry meet chimney soot, green peppercorn and a floral peony note. The palate is medium-bodied and firmly drawn, with lean red and dark fruit carried by bright acidity. Fine, dusty tannins provide a traditional frame, while earth and delicate spice add savoury depth. The finish is restrained but persistent, returning to pepper, dark fruit and a quiet smoky edge.
René Rostaing 2019 Côte-Rôtie La Viaillère
French Wine
Kirsch, blackberry and ripe plum are framed by violet, dried herbs, olive and green pepper. The palate combines concentration with a velvety, savoury texture, its dark fruit held in line by fresh acidity and fine, rounded tannins. Pepper and mineral notes sharpen the profile as it opens, while a measured touch of oak adds polish. The finish is long, floral and gently herbal rather than heavy.

French Wine
Black raspberry, cassis and redcurrant are lifted by violet, acacia and a faint apricot note, then deepen into bacon fat, tapenade, smoke and pepper. The palate is plush and silky, with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a long mineral finish. Mature savoury tones sit comfortably beside the fruit. Decant carefully and serve with roast duck, lamb, venison or a deeply flavoured mushroom dish.
E. Guigal 1998 Côte-Rôtie La Turque
French Wine
Cassis, blackberry and red cherry open into liquorice, smoked meat, violet and dark spice. The palate is immense and concentrated, with ripe tannins, fresh acidity and a silky texture carrying the fruit through a long mineral finish. Earth, herbs and smoky oak add savoury depth without obscuring the perfume. Decant patiently and serve with roast lamb, duck, venison or slow-cooked beef.
E. Guigal 1998 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne
French Wine
Blackberry and blackcurrant are densely layered with smoke, tapenade, truffle, dark chocolate and worn leather. The palate is powerful and firmly tannic, but the concentration is matched by fresh acidity and a long mineral, savoury finish. Earth, incense and warm spice emerge as it opens. Give it a careful decant and serve with venison, braised beef, lamb shoulder or a deeply flavoured mushroom dish.
