Château Giscours 2022 Margaux

The estate's recorded winegrowing past begins in 1552, when Bordeaux cloth merchant Pierre de Lhomme bought the house then called Guyscoutz, assembled land around it and planted vines. Investment under the Promis, Pescatore and Cruse owners strengthened its nineteenth-century reputation; the 1855 classification placed Giscours among Margaux's third growths. Today the Albada Jelgersma family continues that stewardship across a broad Margaux landscape where about one hundred hectares of vineyard sit among park, forest and working farmland. The Margaux vines occupy three distinct gravel outcrops over layered limestone, marl and clay, with deep roots able to find retained moisture during dry periods. Soil work, grass cover and biodiversity projects form part of an agroecological approach, while old vine material is identified and propagated through massal selection to preserve genetic diversity. Giscours' stature comes from that combination of classified-growth history, an unusually complete estate ecosystem and a forward-looking effort to keep its vineyard material resilient.
