Second Growth
Château Cos d’Estournel 1986 Saint-Estèphe
Ripe plum, blackcurrant and blackberry meet liquorice, graphite and a smoky, toasted note. The palate is concentrated yet composed, with savoury depth, firm grainy tannins and mineral freshness holding the mature fruit in shape. Cedar and warm spice build through a long, refined finish that remains powerful without feeling heavy.
Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1991 Saint-Julien
Mature and finely composed, with cassis, pencil lead and damp earth rising from the glass. A trace of burning ember adds warmth without obscuring the fruit. The palate is concentrated yet harmonious, bringing cigar box and dark berries through integrated tannins. The finish is dry and measured, with cedar, mineral and blackcurrant lingering in a distinctly classical, savoury frame.
Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1983 Saint-Julien
Firm and classically mature, opening with cedar, tobacco and cigar box over bright red berries and black cherry. Ash, damp forest floor and a cool earthy note add savoury detail. The palate is medium to full in weight, with rustic tannins giving the fruit a disciplined frame. A long, dry finish returns to cedar, leaf and red fruit with a distinctly traditional profile.
Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1982 Saint-Julien
Classic and commanding, with blackcurrant, cedar, lead pencil and forest-floor notes unfolding over tobacco and spice. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, yet vibrant, with cassis and blackberry held by firm, mature tannins and a clear mineral line. Time in the glass brings greater lift and aromatic detail without softening its structure entirely. The finish is exceptionally long and intense, carrying dark fruit, cigar box and cool savoury depth.
Chateau Cos d’Estournel 2003 Saint-Estephe
Lush and concentrated, with cassis, black cherry and ripe dark plum framed by cigar box, tobacco and warm spice. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, carrying dense black fruit with freshness and finely polished tannins. Truffle, smoke and a mineral note add savoury depth as the wine opens. The finish is long and opulent, returning to dark berries, cedar, licorice and spice without losing definition.
Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1995 Saint-Julien
Mature yet still vigorous, with black cherry, cassis and dark red fruit joined by spice, cigar wrapper and a savoury mineral edge. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, carrying ripe tannins with impressive freshness and depth. Dark fruit remains at the centre while tobacco and stone add classical Left Bank detail. The finish is dense, long and chewy, with power held in a polished frame.
Chateau Leoville Las Cases 1999 Saint-Julien
Medium-bodied and classically reserved, with cranberry, cassis and black cherry joined by tobacco and damp earth. Vanilla and discreet toasted oak add polish without masking the fruit. The palate is bright and linear, with sweet tannins giving shape to a leaner profile. The finish is dry and persistent, carrying currant, cedar and tobacco through a restrained, savoury close.
Chateau Leoville Barton 2005 Saint-Julien
Blackberry, cassis and kirsch lead a deep, structured profile, joined by candied violet, wood smoke and cardamom. The palate is full and concentrated, with grainy tannins and fresh acidity framing the dark fruit. Cedar, graphite and leather bring classic savoury depth. The finish is long and persistent, returning to blackcurrant, spice and polished mineral tension rather than overt sweetness.
Durfort-Vivens 2019 Margaux
Blackberry, blackcurrant and rose petal open with graphite, sweet earth and gentle spice. The palate is poised and energetic, built around dense but finely powdered tannins and ripe dark fruit. Fresh acidity keeps the wine lifted, while subtle liquorice and savoury herbs add depth. The finish is long and precise, returning to floral detail, mineral freshness and a restrained cedar note.
