AboutCastello di Tassarolo
Artist Massimiliana Spinola returned from London in 2005 to take charge of Castello di Tassarolo, her family’s wine estate in the Gavi hills. The Spinolas have owned its castle since the fourteenth century; Massimiliana began converting the vineyards to biodynamic farming in 2006. She works with Bonifacio Spinola and Miri Velli, who leads the vineyard and cellar team.
Roughly twenty hectares are planted mainly to Cortese, with smaller parcels of Barbera and Nebbiolo. Comtois horses cultivate some of the rows, helping reduce soil compaction.
Castello di Tassarolo 2023 Rosa Spinola Monferrato Chiaretto
Italian Rosé
The rosé is made entirely from organically grown Nebbiolo. Vines stand near Fubine at about three hundred metres, with eastern and southeastern exposure. The soils contain magnesium, silt, clay and fine gravel. Grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a short maceration before gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperature, followed by maturation in stainless steel.

Italian White
This dry white is made entirely from Cortese grown in Gavi, Piedmont. It contains thirteen percent alcohol and matures for five months in stainless steel. Organic certification comes from BIOS, while AGRIBIO provides biodynamic certification; the wine is also sustainable and vegan. A natural cork closes the glass bottle, and residual sugar is below five grams per litre.
