Ribera del Duero
Ribera del Duero
Bodega La Milagrosa 2016 Milcampos Viñas Viejas Ribera del Duero
Made entirely from Tempranillo selected from old vineyards, the wine matures for at least six months in American and Spanish oak. Violet colour accompanies floral, ripe black-fruit, cassis and mineral notes. Plum, fig preserve and strawberry compote add further fruit character. The vineyards include very old parcels with low yields, and the finished red reaches 14 percent alcohol.
Bodegas Nabal 2022 Valle de Nabal Ribera del Duero
Clove, desert scrub and a spicy balsamic note accompany cassis, red plum, mulberry, vanilla, leather and tobacco. The palate is rich, with a smooth texture. Tempranillo comes from forty- to fifty-year-old bush vines on calcareous clay at 850 metres. Wild fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. The wine then spends nine months in new French and American oak.
Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5° 2011 Ribera del Duero
Generously aromatic, with blue and black fruit, black cherry and bitter cherry layered with orange peel, fennel, cedar, anise, graphite and balsamic spice. The palate is focused and lively, combining a surprisingly light touch with deepening fruit, firm structure and fine tannins. Long, savoury and subtly nutty on the finish, it benefits from two hours in a decanter.
Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5° 2008 Ribera del Duero
Serious and tightly drawn, with dark cherry and black fruit joined by blood orange, dried herbs, forest floor, black tea and a subtle balsamic note. The palate is long rather than broad, driven by juicy acidity, fine tannins and a firm mineral edge. Savoury and precise through the finish, it rewards decanting and pairs well with lamb or slow-cooked beef.
