Serious and tightly drawn, with dark cherry and black fruit joined by blood orange, dried herbs, forest floor, black tea and a subtle balsamic note. The palate is long rather than broad, driven by juicy acidity, fine tannins and a firm mineral edge. Savoury and precise through the finish, it rewards decanting and pairs well with lamb or slow-cooked beef.

About Vega-Sicilia
Vega Sicilia's name appears in records from 1577, and professional winemaking began there under Eloy Lecanda in 1864. The Álvarez family acquired the property in 1982 and made it the foundation of the group now called TEMPOS Vega Sicilia.
About 210 of the property's roughly 1,000 hectares are vineyards, managed parcel by parcel. The estate also makes American-oak barrels in its own cooperage for its long ageing programmes. Valbuena 5º takes its name from five years of ageing between wood and bottle, with Tinto Fino dominant and Merlot used in some vintages.
