Blackberry, black cherry and violet unfold into dark chocolate, liquorice, graphite and tobacco. The palate is concentrated and broad, with polished tannins, balanced acidity and a savoury mineral line that keeps the ripe fruit composed. Long ageing in new French oak is now fully integrated, adding depth rather than overt sweetness. Decant gently for sediment and serve with braised beef, roast lamb, porcini or a firm aged cheese.

About Masseto
Masseto lies near Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, on a hillside of blue Pliocene clay. In the 1980s, consultant André Tchelistcheff recognized the slope’s potential for Merlot. The project began within Ornellaia and now has its own gravity-flow winery.
Vineyard work is tailored to individual parcels, taking account of differences in clay, slope and exposure. In the winery, those lots remain separate through fermentation and ageing before the final selection.
