About Dr. H. Thanisch – Erben Müller-Burggraef
The Thanisch family's winemaking history in Bernkastel stretches back more than 375 years. The Erben Müller-Burggraef estate's roughly 16 hectares are devoted to Riesling, much of it on the steep slate slopes around Bernkastel where work remains heavily manual.
The steep, slate-rich Berncasteler Doctor vineyard is the historic heart of the estate. Spontaneous fermentations move slowly at cool temperatures, with traditional thousand-litre oak casks and stainless steel chosen case by case.
