Tangerine, green apple and honeysuckle accompany candied lemon, grapefruit, white peach, plum and white pepper. The palate combines sweetness with bracing acidity and a candied-lemon finish. Riesling from Saarburg is grown on slate-rich soils and fermented in a neutral Fuder cask. The grapes are picked by hand. Vines average twenty years in parcels within the Rausch vineyard.

About Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken
Winegrowing in the Zilliken family reaches back to 1742, but the estate’s modern name also carries the legacy of Royal Prussian forest superintendent Ferdinand Geltz, a founder of the organization now known as the VDP Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. After the original buildings were destroyed in 1944, Marianne and Fritz Zilliken rebuilt the family enterprise; from 1947 it has been known as Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken. Dorothee Zilliken now leads the 13-hectare Saarburg estate with her father and cellar master Hanno, husband Philipp and mother Ruth.
Riesling is the entire focus, with the steep Saarburger Rausch as the principal holding and a smaller parcel in Ockfener Bockstein adding its own mixture of slate, quartz and yellow loam. Beneath Saarburg, the three-level cellar stays naturally cool and humid, with slow fermentations in neutral wooden casks.
