AboutOkunomatsu Sake Brewery
Okunomatsu Sake Brewery traces its history to 1716 in Nihonmatsu, Fukushima, where the Yusa family moved from samurai service into commerce and sake brewing. Joji Yusa became its nineteenth-generation leader in 2007.
The brewery uses rice grown around Nihonmatsu and soft water from Mount Adatara’s snowmelt, filtered underground for decades. Head brewer Keiichi Tonokawa aims for approachable sake with a balance of aroma and umami.
Okunomatsu Yusa Junmai Ginjo
Honeydew melon, ripe pear and orange blossom give the aroma a soft, welcoming lift. The palate is gently sweet and rounded, with a creamy texture balanced by fresh acidity and a measured savoury umami note. The fruit remains clear and polished through the middle, never becoming heavy. A mild, very clean finish makes this an easy partner for food. Serve lightly chilled with steamed clams, garlic-butter scallops, grilled pork or vegetable tempura.
Okunomatsu Kinmon Gold Crest Sake 720 mL
Fragrant and balanced, with a warm flavour and a gently sweet profile. The rice is polished to seventy percent, while the sake meter value is minus one. It can be served chilled, at room temperature, gently warmed or hot. The style is intended for simple evening drinking, with an even character that remains approachable across a broad range of serving temperatures.
