AboutNichol
Nichol Vineyard is one of the early wineries on the Naramata Bench, with its home vineyard planted between 1989 and 1991. Owner, grower and winemaker Ross Hackworth keeps the operation small, with fruit for every wine grown within nine hundred metres of the winery.
Most vineyard work and harvesting are done by hand, with low yields and minimal tractor use. The winery uses neutral French oak barrels in the cellar. Syrah from vines planted in 1990 and 1991 sits alongside Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris in the range.
Nichol 2025 Pinot Gris Naramata
Canadian White
A pale salmon-pink hue introduces fuzzy peach, apricot skin and grapefruit. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, with citrus pith, apricot stone and a light creaminess adding texture. Fine tannic tension from brief skin contact meets bright acidity and a saline finish. Serve with salmon, roast squash or lightly spiced dishes.

Canadian Red
Wild blackberry and dark cherry meet crushed violet, cracked pepper and a stony savoury underlay. Taut acidity and long, finely grippy tannins give the palate real energy without obscuring the fruit. The finish is persistent, peppery and mineral. Decant briefly and serve with grilled lamb, duck, lentils with herbs or roasted mushrooms.
Nichol 2022 The Village Cabernet Franc
Canadian Red
Savoury red berry fruit, sage and thyme meet a medium-bodied palate with subtle tannins and driving acidity. The finish is fresh and crunchy. Fruit comes from vines planted in the village of Naramata in the late twenty-teens. The grapes were hand-picked, destemmed and fermented on skins for four weeks with gentle remuage, followed by malolactic fermentation and eighteen months in old barriques.

Canadian Red
Blackberry and Marasca cherry emerge with sage and liquorice before lilac and violet add a floral lift. Midweight but saturated in flavour, the palate has a stony, granitic foundation, vibrant red-currant acidity and velvety, elegant tannins. The finish is savoury and persistent. Decant briefly and pair with lamb, duck or lentils with herbs.
Nichol 2022 Nate’s Vineyard Syrah
Canadian Red
Wild blackberry, black cherry and juicy red berries lead a youthful, savoury nose, layered with violet, cracked pepper and fresh herbs. The palate brings sweet tobacco and rich black tea into the fruit, with meaty undertones adding depth. Fine structure and lively freshness carry the peppery finish.
