AboutKir-Yianni
Yiannis Boutaris established Kir-Yianni in 1997 after stepping away from Boutari, the family wine business created by his grandfather in 1879. The estate’s roots reach back to 1970, when Boutaris planted Xinomavro on the eastern foothills of Mount Vermion near Naoussa; a second foothold followed in high-altitude Amyndeon in 1985. Fifth-generation winemaker Stellios Boutaris now leads the vineyards and wineries in both regions.
At Naoussa, the 60-hectare estate is divided into 42 separately farmed blocks with different soils, slopes and exposures. The estate’s work with Xinomavro has included parcel trials, clonal research and extensive replanting.
Kir-Yianni 2024 The North Assyrtiko
Citrus, bay leaf, lime blossom and ripe white peach meet juicy acidity, roundness and mineral character. The finish is concentrated, lingering and saline. Assyrtiko comes from young vines in the mountainous vineyards of Amyndeon. The grapes are cooled overnight and cold macerated. After fermentation, the wine spends four to five months on its lees. This dry white contains 13.5 percent alcohol and is classified as sustainable and vegan.
Kir-Yianni 2023 Malagousia Single Block Bara
Lemon-green in colour, with orange blossom, jasmine, white peach, pear and quince. Crispness meets a rich mouthfeel and a long finish. Malagousia comes from Block 11 at Samaropetra, on a ten-percent northwest-facing slope at 720 metres. The grapes are hand harvested, selected, given skin contact and fermented in stainless steel, with gentle lees stirring during the final six months.
Kir-Yianni Veroni Dry Vermouth
Fresh oregano, spearmint and chamomile lead a vivid herbal aroma, with lemon verbena and citrus adding lift. The palate is bright and balanced, combining brisk acidity with an extra-dry profile and a firm quinine bitterness. Rooty herbs and thyme give the middle savoury depth, while a subtle orange note softens the edges. The finish is long, fresh and elegantly bitter. Serve well chilled, over ice, or as the dry vermouth in a classic Martini.
Kir-Yianni 2021 Xinomavro Ramnista
A firm, age-worthy Xinomavro with deep colour, pronounced acidity and powerful tannins. Its dark-fruited profile is framed by a complex aromatic character and a distinctly structured palate, giving the wine both freshness and the capacity to develop over time. Decanting will help it open; serve with braised beef, lamb, mushrooms or rich tomato-based dishes.
