AboutHunter Laing & Co.

Glasgow bottler Hunter Laing traces its whisky roots to 1949, when Frederick Laing founded a blending business. His son Stewart joined in 1964, and the present company took shape in 2013 with Stewart and the next generation of the family.

Working with other distilleries, Hunter Laing fills casks with newly distilled spirit and ages it both at the distilleries and in its own warehouses. After the family tasting panel selects an individual cask, each single-cask release is hand-bottled and hand-labelled without artificial colouring or chill filtration. The family also built Ardnahoe Distillery on Islay.

Scarabus Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700 mL

Scottish Whisky
$113.99
Peat smoke and sea salt lead the nose, followed by vanilla, honey and a leathery depth. The palate is classically Islay in shape: smoky and maritime, but rounded by sweet oak and a measured layer of spice. Maturation in bourbon and virgin American oak casks gives the whisky both creamy sweetness and firmer toasted structure. The finish is warming and persistent, with smoke, brine and vanilla returning. Serve neat or add a few drops of water.

Hunter Laing Kill Devil 9 Year Old Foursquare Barbados Single Cask Rum

Barbadian Rum
$169.99
Soft caramel and vanilla open with orange peel, lemon zest and a light herbal note. The palate is rounded but lively, bringing toasted coconut, cocoa and toffee into balance with citrus freshness and measured oak. A gentle spice builds through the middle. The finish is clean and warming, leaving caramel, citrus oil, cocoa and a savoury trace of herbs.

Hunter Laing Kill Devil 17 Year Old 1998 Jamaica Hampden Single Cask Rum

Jamaican Rum
$259.99
Ripe pineapple, overripe banana and yellow fruit lead a vivid, high-toned aroma, with a faint estery edge and an earthy touch of olive. The palate is sweet and resinous, bringing grilled nuts, vanilla and cooling mint into a gently funky core. Tropical fruit remains prominent through the finish, which returns to pineapple, warm spice and a lightly charred, savoury note.

Hunter Laing Kill Devil 11 Year Old Trinidad Single Cask Rum

Trinidadian Rum
$199.99
Silky caramel and cinnamon lead a rich, composed aroma, followed by sweet orange, vanilla, treacle and raisin bread. The palate is rounded and gently sweet, with oak and warm baking spice giving the fruit measured structure. Nothing dominates the centre. The finish is concise but clean, leaving caramel, peppery spice, vanilla and a final touch of orange peel.
