AboutCHOYA
CHOYA began as a grape-growing business in 1914, later making wine and brandy before turning to umeshu. Founder Sumitaro Kondo wanted to develop this Japanese ume-fruit liqueur, and production began in 1959.
For its umeshu, CHOYA uses Japan-grown ume, predominantly the Kishu Nanko variety. The fruit is steeped whole with its stones, then the liqueur rests in tanks before tasting and blending. No artificial acidulants, flavourings or colourings are used in the umeshu.
CHOYA Honkaku Umeshu Soda
Bright ume fruit leads with a clean balance of tartness and gentle sweetness. Fine bubbles lift the fruit and keep the palate light, while the umeshu base adds a soft, rounded depth beneath the carbonation. The finish is fresh, lightly tangy and composed rather than sugary. Serve well chilled on its own, or pair with salty snacks, grilled skewers, fried chicken or lightly spiced dishes.
