AboutChâteau Laurence
Philippe Nunes grew up in a winegrowing family and studied winemaking at the University of Bordeaux. After his first Pomerol vintage in 1997, he joined La Fleur de Boüard in 1998. Château Laurence lies across Montussan and Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac; the property is named for the stream separating the two communes.
Just over eight hectares combine gravelly clay at Montussan with south-facing clay-limestone plateaus in Saint-Sulpice-et-Cameyrac. Merlot leads the reds, while Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay feature in the whites, including bottle-fermented sparkling wines. Cellar work varies by wine and parcel, using temperature-controlled steel tanks and French oak.
Château Laurence 2016 Petite Laurence Bordeaux Supérieur
Merlot grows on clay and calcareous highlands for this Bordeaux Supérieur. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by sixteen months in French oak. Coffee, oak, blackberry jam, plum and tobacco appear in the profile. The palate is fruity, fresh and silky, with blackberry, strawberry and plum held by fine tannins. The estate identifies its farming as sustainable.
