AboutChâteau Faugères
A lease from 1619 records vines at Château Faugères, whose forty-two hectares now lie across Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau and clay-limestone slopes. Silvio Denz bought the estate in 2005, and it became a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé in 2012.
The vines form a natural amphitheatre, with slopes facing south-southeast and Merlot leading the plantings. Swiss architect Mario Botta designed the gravity-flow winery, opened in 2009, to allow individual parcels to be handled separately. Michel Rolland has advised the estate since 1992, and careful berry selection remains part of the cellar work.
Château Faugères 2015 Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Blackcurrant, black raspberry and plum lead, with mint, licorice, coffee, tobacco and spice adding depth. The palate is full-bodied and plush, its ripe dark fruit framed by bright acidity and well-integrated tannins through a long, mineral finish. Decant and serve with roast lamb, braised beef or aged cheese.
