AboutBowmore
Bowmore makes single malt Scotch whisky on Islay’s shores of Loch Indaal, with written records dating to 1779. William and James Mutter expanded the distillery during the family’s ownership from 1837 to 1887.
In its malt barn, barley is turned by hand every four hours before drying in a peat-fired kiln. Fermentation takes place in six Oregon-pine vats, followed by distillation in four stills. The No. 1 Vaults beside the loch remain in use for maturing whisky.

Scottish Whisky
Oak spice, vanilla and coconut lead the nose, followed by lemon, orange and a delicate thread of sweet peat smoke. The palate is lively but balanced, with gentle smoke moving through toasted oak, vanilla and bright lemon zest. Coastal salinity and pepper build as the whisky develops, giving the fruit and sweetness a firmer edge. First-fill bourbon casks keep the profile direct and energetic. The finish is long, carrying light smoke, vanilla and lemon-pepper warmth. Add water gradually to open the citrus and soften the cask strength.

Scottish Whisky
Subtle lemon and heather honey lead the aroma, balanced by Bowmore's measured peat smoke. The palate is warm and composed, with cocoa, citrus and gentle maritime character moving through a lightly oily texture. Smoke remains integrated rather than dominant, allowing the malt's sweetness and mature oak to stay clear. The finish is long and mellow, returning to honey, dark chocolate and soft peat. A classic, restrained Islay style.
Bowmore 16 Year Old 1992 Bordeaux Wine Cask Matured
Scottish Whisky
Six years in bourbon casks followed by ten years in Bordeaux wine casks bring Islay peat smoke into close contact with ripe red fruit. Raspberry and strawberry lead into plum, currant, caramel and marzipan, with grape-skin tannin adding grip. Brine and damp-cellar earthiness emerge toward the finish, where smoke lingers. Bottled at cask strength, it rewards a little water.
Bowmore The Devil’s Casks III
Scottish Whisky
First-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks give this Islay single malt a dense, dark-fruited character. Raisin, salted caramel, malted chocolate and burnt orange peel lead into sea salt, coffee, spice and measured smoke. The palate is full-bodied and richly layered, with cherry and chocolate extending through a maritime finish. Serve neat and allow time in the glass.
Bowmore 23 Yr Port Matured
Scottish Whisky
Port-cask richness leads, with cooked cherry and orange, plum, dried apricot and wine-soaked fruit set against roasted coffee and spice. Smoke and a damp-cellar earthiness keep the sweetness grounded. The palate brings grapey fruit and toasted wood before turning drier and more savoury. A long finish carries clean smoke, oak, dried fruit and delicate floral detail with measured maritime restraint.
