Harold Currie founded Isle of Arran Distillers to bring legal whisky production back to the island. Construction at Lochranza began in 1994, and the first spirit ran from the stills on 29 June 1995.
The northern distillery draws its water from Loch na Davie and is the home of the unpeated Arran Single Malt. It uses traditional copper pot stills. Its sister distillery, Lagg, opened in the south of the island in 2019 to make heavily peated single malt.

Dried fig, dark cherry and roasted nuts lead into orange peel and warm baking spice. The palate is full and generous, with chocolate, raisin and honeyed malt balanced by a fresh citrus line. Silky Scottish cream gives the palate immediate richness, while a generous measure of Arran single malt adds malt, soft fruit and gentle whisky warmth. The texture is smooth and rounded without becoming heavy, with a measured sweetness carrying vanilla, cream and quiet oak through the middle. A clean, mellow finish leaves malt and dairy richness in balance. Serve well chilled, over ice or in coffee; it also works naturally in desserts and cream-led cocktails.
Arran Quarter Cask ‘The Bothy’ Island Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Lemon peel, candy floss and cocoa open the nose, followed by vanilla and warm oak. The palate is full-bodied and intensely fruity, with pineapple, green apple, honey and citrus balanced by a light chilli note. Initial maturation in first-fill bourbon barrels and a finish in smaller American-oak quarter casks build concentration while preserving freshness. The finish is aromatic and satisfying, carrying fruit, peppery spice and oak. Serve neat first, then add a few drops of water to soften the cask strength.

Ripe orchard and tropical fruit meet caramelized citrus, toasted oak and sweet spice. The palate is rich and intense yet remains balanced, with sherry-cask depth supported by first-fill bourbon freshness. A blend of first- and second-fill sherry hogsheads and first-fill bourbon casks gives the whisky both generosity and definition. Serve neat, allowing time in the glass before adding water.

The palate expands through fruit cake, toasted almond and cinnamon, brightened by orange and mandarin before manuka honey, muscovado sugar, apricot and white pepper add depth. Sherry and bourbon maturation brings balance, while dark chocolate, walnut and fruit compote shape a creamy, spiced finish. Serve neat.
