Viré-Clessé
Maison Coquard 2020 Viré-Clessé
Fresh apple and citrus zest lead a dry, lively white, joined by acacia and orange blossom. Cut hay and fern add an herbal register, while a light pepper note brings savoury contrast. The palate remains taut and lively, moving between floral, orchard-fruit and green tones. Apple, citrus and blossom provide the fruit and floral detail, set against the contrasting hay, fern and pepper.
Domaine Seguin-Manuel 2021 Viré-Clessé
Gold in colour, the Chardonnay combines fruit, mineral and floral notes. The palate is straightforward and concentrated, with ripe fruit and a delicate, lively mineral finish. Old vines grow on east-facing limestone-and-clay slopes in Viré. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by nine months of maturation in French oak casks. Viré lies north of Mâcon and fifty miles south of Beaune.
Les Vignes d’Adelie 2023 Vire-Clesse
An intense nose brings roasted almond, mocha and gently toasted notes. The palate is powerful and fleshy, with mirabelle plum and candied-grape richness carried by ample texture. Roasted nuances return through the mid-palate, while the wine’s weight and concentration settle into a long, broad and generous finish.
Joseph Burrier 2018 Viré-Clessé Quintaine
Fine and mineral, opening with acacia, hawthorn and fresh orchard fruit. The palate is balanced and quietly generous, with citrus freshness giving the ripe Chardonnay a clear, persistent line. A measured buttery note and gentle savoury depth add breadth without weighing down the finish. Well suited to roast poultry, firm fish or creamy mushroom dishes.
