Mâcon-Villages
Jean Loron 2018 Rift 71 Sans Soufre Chardonnay
Bright citrus, pear and green apple meet a hint of lees in a fresh, taut Chardonnay. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, where the wine rests briefly before bottling. No sulphur is added during production. The palate is crisp and zippy, with a tight structure. This dry white wine comes from Mâcon-Villages in Burgundy. The Loron family has made wine since 1711, with its eighth generation overseeing production.
Domaine de Naisse 2022 Mâcon-Villages Travers
Chardonnay comes from twenty-year-old vines in the Naisse locality around the estate. The parcel lies on a northwest-facing slope, and the vines were planted on Riparia rootstock. The wine arose from a collaboration with a Paris restaurateur and wine merchant, with artwork by illustrator Matthias Bourdelier. Vineyard work follows sustainable, lutte-raisonnée practices in the Mâconnais.
Domaine Thierry Drouin 2023 Mâcon-Villages Plaisance
Bright yellow with green highlights, the wine brings together flint, white peach, green apple, acacia and fresh white fruit. A round, generous texture meets lively acidity, citrus and wet stone through a lingering mineral finish. The Chardonnay comes from northern and western Mâconnais plots with limestone-rich soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, preserving the unwooded style.
Clos des Vignes du Maynes Julien Guillot 2019 Mâcon-Villages Blanc
Chardonnay comes from vineyards in Chardonnay, Montbellet and Viré-Clessé, where weathered loam lies over limestone. Grapes are hand harvested and selected, then slowly pressed and settled for six to eighteen hours. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in tank without sulphur. The wine spends twelve months on the lees, receives small sulphur additions during racking and after filtration, and is bottled after light filtration.
Domaine de la Bongran 2000 Mâcon-Villages Cuvée Botrytis
Honeyed peach skin, apricot and tropical fruit unfold around a savoury thread of saffron-like spice. The palate is lush and silky, with notable sweetness and concentration, yet lively acidity keeps the generous texture balanced. A mineral undertone adds precision to the long, gently warming finish. Serve in a small pour with blue cheese, fruit tart or almond cake.
Joseph Drouhin 2019 Mâcon-Villages
Ripe fruit leads with brightness and energy, joined by subtle notes of sandalwood and dried earth. The palate is lively and well balanced from start to finish, with clear fruit, measured savoury depth and a fresh, clean line. Its combination of lift and gentle complexity works naturally with pan-fried sole, mushrooms or roast poultry.
