Crozes-Hermitage
Yannick Alléno & Michel Chapoutier 2023 Guer-Van Crozes-Hermitage
French Red
Smoked lard and speck appear with freshness in this Syrah. The structure is tight and velvety. The grapes were fully destemmed, and maceration lasted four weeks in concrete vats with regular pump-overs. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations were carried out with indigenous flora in barrels. Maturation lasted twelve months in previously used barrels. The vines grow in brown and colluvial soils derived from metamorphosed granite.
Domaine Philippe & Vincent Jaboulet 2020 Crozes-Hermitage Blanc
French White
Freshness and lightness define this Marsanne, with honeysuckle and Canada apple. Fine citrus zest, a measured sense of weight, discreet oak and butter are also present. Made entirely from Marsanne, the dry white comes from Crozes-Hermitage. The producer's vineyards and cellar sit three kilometres south of Tain-l'Hermitage, within the northern Rhône landscape surrounding the Hermitage appellation.
Domaine des Lises 2020 Crozes-Hermitage
French Red
Black fruit, earth, tobacco leaf, toasted alder and smoke appear with ripeness and density. The tannins are fine and chalky. The hand-harvested Syrah is 70 to 100 percent destemmed. Primary-fruit freshness is retained. Blackberry, pepper, plum and damson add further detail. The wine is certified Organic, contains thirteen percent alcohol and comes from France's Rhône Valley.
Dard et Ribo 2018 Crozes-Hermitage Rouge
French Red
Juicy and energetic, with dark berries, violet and cracked pepper carried by a fluid, finely structured palate. Whole-bunch Syrah and restrained extraction preserve aromatic lift, fresh acidity and supple tannins, while a stony mineral line brings precision to the finish. Serve slightly cool with grilled lamb, roast chicken, sausages or earthy mushroom dishes.
Saint Cosme 2023 Crozes-Hermitage
French Red
Black fruit, smoked bacon, cracked pepper and incense lead a savoury, aromatic nose. The palate has more structure than the appellation's flatter-ground examples, with dark Syrah fruit, firm tannins and a mineral line carrying through the finish. Meaty, peppery and composed rather than heavy, it is a strong match for grilled lamb, mushrooms or slow-cooked onions.
