Raúl Pérez 2020 Ultreia Mencía

Ripe red fruit appears with balsamic and mineral notes, while the palate is fresh and balanced, with soft tannins and a persistent finish. The wine is made entirely from Mencía grown around Valtuille in Bierzo. Fruit is selected from the upper rows of the parcel, fermented in open vertical vats and aged for twelve months in neutral barrels. The finished wine contains 13.5 percent alcohol.

About Raúl Pérez
Raúl Pérez began making wine at his family’s Castro Ventosa winery in Valtuille de Abajo, in Bierzo. He launched his own Ultreia project in 2003 and remains based in Bierzo, with work extending into León, Rías Baixas, Ribeira Sacra and Monterrei. Old vineyards and native or endangered grape varieties are central to his work. He often works with whole bunches, and some wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
