Swerwer 2022 Red Blend

Crushed plum, wild blackberry, cherry and anise accompany fynbos, dried herbs, fine black-tea tannins and a lingering saline finish. The palate is juicy. Cinsault and Grenache from granite soils are co-fermented with ten percent Tinta Barocca from a drier, clay-soiled vineyard. Native yeasts are used for fermentation, and the wine spends eleven months in large, old oak foudre.

About Swerwer
After working vintages around the world, winemaker Jasper Wickens started Swerwer in Swartland in 2012. He works in the Siebritskloof valley on the Paardeberg, with old bush vines and younger vineyards on granite-derived soils.
Renovating the farm cellar brought winemaking back to the property after a gap of almost ninety years. Wickens uses native yeasts and old oak, with no fining and only light filtration.
