About Château Cantemerle
Château Cantemerle can trace its vineyard holdings to 1354, and the Villeneuve family acquired the estate in 1579. In the nineteenth century, Baroness Caroline de Villeneuve-Durfort enlarged the property and secured its recognition among the classified growths of 1855. A new chapter began in 1981, when the SMA group acquired Cantemerle and undertook a long programme of renewal.
Today, 98 of the estate's 200 hectares are planted on the deep gravel soils of the Haut-Médoc, with almost another hundred hectares maintained as woodland and other natural spaces. In the cellar, wines from individual vineyard plots are handled separately, with gentle extraction.
