Wachau

Medium yellow-green colour has silver reflections. Cox’s Orange Pippin apple, blossom honey and delicate floral notes appear in the aromatic profile. The palate is juicy, round and almost creamy, with yellow tropical fruit, fine acidity and discreet fruit sweetness. A mineral finish is long. This stainless-steel-matured Grüner Veltliner comes from Wachau and contains thirteen percent alcohol.

The wine draws from four terraced vineyards: Bruck, Schön, Buschenberg and Hochrain. Most are rooted in primary rock, while one vineyard has loess soil. The sites are too small to bottle separately, so they come together as a cross-section of Wachau. Made from Grüner Veltliner, the vineyards are certified organic and much of the terrace work is done by hand.

Pale chartreuse-yellow with silver reflections accompanies meadow herbs, yellow apple, mango, blossom honey and candied orange zest. The palate is juicy, with ripe mango and a salty finish. Vines grow on gneiss near the upper part of the site, while deeper clay layers appear lower down. The wine comes from the Mühlpoint vineyard in Austria’s Wachau.

Handpicked fruit comes from terraced parcels at Buschenberg, Hochrain and Weitenberg, where mica schist, gneiss and loess are present. The grapes are completely destemmed, with five percent stems returned for four weeks of skin contact. Spontaneous fermentation is followed by fifteen months in used 300-litre wood. Bottling uses minimal sulphur and coarse filtration, and the dry white carries twelve and one-half percent alcohol.

Flint, baked apple and fresh apple open with mint, lanolin and a distinctly herbal lift. The palate is taut, fresh and poised, showing remarkable liveliness within a deep, contemplative profile. A slender line of acidity keeps the texture vivid, while firm, lightly astringent structure adds definition. The finish is long, spicy and crystalline, carrying herbs, apple and mineral detail with refined persistence.
