Thanksgiving at the table
What are you serving this Thanksgiving?
The turkey may be the centrepiece, but the stuffing has its fans too. Whatever you’re looking forward to most, we’ve chosen nine wines to go with the dishes that make Thanksgiving dinner worth lingering over.
There’s Pinot Noir for turkey and mushroom stuffing, a bright Albariño for oysters, and generous reds for lamb, beef or a golden Wellington. Here’s what we’d pour, and why.
Turkey & stuffing
Turkey, stuffing and all the trimmings
For a classic turkey dinner, we’d start with a red that has plenty of fruit without heavy tannins. If the stuffing is the dish everyone talks about, let its ingredients help you choose.

Burgundy, France · Pinot Noir
Chatelet Hautes Côtes de Nuits
2018 · Pinot Noir
Roast turkey with mushroom stuffing
Strawberry and red cherry lead into violet and a little spice. This medium-bodied Pinot Noir has gentle tannins and a fresh finish, so there’s plenty of flavour without a heavy feel.
From Maison Chatelet in Burgundy’s Hautes Côtes de Nuits.
Turkey and all the trimmings call for a wine that can keep up without taking over. The red fruit is lovely against savoury mushroom stuffing, while the refreshing finish is especially welcome if you’re generous with the gravy.
