About Pico Wines
Pico Wines is the island’s wine cooperative, founded in 1949 to give local growers a shared cellar. On Pico, vines grow in cracks in black basalt, sheltered from salt-laden Atlantic winds by low stone walls. Much of the vineyard work is done by hand. The cooperative works with local grapes including Arinto dos Açores, Verdelho and Terrantez do Pico.
