Plum and red-berry aromas are joined by liquorice. The blend combines Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. About Nittardi
Nittardi is recorded as the medieval Nectar Dei estate and later belonged to Michelangelo Buonarroti, who sent its wine to Rome as a papal gift in 1549. Peter Femfert and Stefania Canali acquired and restored the property in 1981, and their son Leon Femfert has directed the family winery since 2013. Certified-organic estate vineyards in Chianti Classico are joined by a separate coastal Maremma property, allowing the range to move from Sangiovese-led wines to Mediterranean blends and Vermentino. Since 1981, a different international artist has created the label and wrapping for Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa, extending Michelangelo's connection into an annual wine-and-art tradition.
