Bertani 1983 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
$699.99
Dried plum, cherry and dried tomato are layered with porcini, leather and warm spice. The palate is fully mature yet still structured, with vivid acidity keeping the savoury fruit and earthy depth in balance. Tea leaf, liquorice and a gentle consommé note carry through the long, dry finish. Decant carefully for sediment and serve with braised beef, game, mushrooms or aged cheese.

About Bertani
Giovan Battista and Gaetano Bertani founded their winery in Valpantena in 1857. Gaetano had studied in Burgundy with the agronomist Jules Guyot, bringing new vineyard and cellar ideas back to Verona. Their dry Secco-Bertani offered an alternative to the sweet wines then common in the region.
The house later acquired Tenuta Novare in Valpolicella Classica, where Corvina and the drying of grapes for appassimento became central to its work. Its first officially labelled Amarone was the 1958 vintage, and its library of retained vintages extends back to that release.
