About Howling Bluff Estate Winery
Howling Bluff Estate Winery is the Smith family's small estate on the Naramata Bench, born after Luke and Jennifer Smith bought a fallow property in 2003 and established the winery the following year. Luke's interest in wine had been growing for decades, and the move to Naramata turned that long-held ambition into a hands-on family enterprise. The vineyard was planted to Pinot Noir, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, with Pinot Noir eventually becoming the estate's central pursuit.
Production remains deliberately small-lot, with the family growing the fruit and making the wines on the estate. The name came from an early morning when the family's dogs began howling on the bluff.
