About Batailley
Château Batailley is one of Pauillac’s older estates, with vines documented on the property from the seventeenth century. Daniel Guestier acquired it in 1816, expanded the vineyard and modernized the estate; in 1855 it was ranked a Fifth Growth in the Médoc classification.
The Borie brothers bought Batailley in 1924 and divided it in 1941, creating the separate Château Haut-Batailley while Marcel Borie retained the original estate. Through Denise Borie and Emile Castéja, Batailley passed into the Castéja family in 1961. Philippe Castéja succeeded his father in the 2000s and continues the family stewardship.
A renovated vat room introduced parcel-by-parcel vinification in 2006. Lions de Batailley followed in 2015 as the château’s second wine, with a third Pauillac bottling added in 2019.
