Elio Grasso 2016 Barolo Ginestra Casa Matè

Black cherry, plum and balsamic notes appear in a profile with ample, creamy texture and depth. Nebbiolo is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with daily pumpovers, then matured in twenty-five-hectolitre Slavonian oak casks. After bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for eight to ten months. The vineyard has calcareous, clay-rich soil and a southern exposure in Monforte d’Alba.

About Elio Grasso
Elio Grasso’s family estate is based at Ginestra in Monforte d’Alba, where farming and winegrowing have long been part of the property. Elio and Marina returned their focus to estate bottling in the late 1970s and early 1980s after a period when grapes were commonly sold. The domaine began vinifying important parcels separately, allowing sites such as Gavarini and Ginestra to retain their individual Barolo identities.
Nebbiolo is central, with Barbera, Dolcetto and smaller white-wine plantings contributing separate wines rather than a single blended house style. The next generation works within the family estate, while the official history keeps current responsibilities distinct from the earlier return to bottling. Elio Grasso's work remains centred on Monforte d'Alba and separate Barolo vineyards such as Gavarini Chiniera and Ginestra Casa Maté.
