Château Lagrange 1978 Saint-Julien

$149.99

Now fully mature, this Saint-Julien opens with crushed fruit and fragrant tertiary detail. The palate is supple on entry, then turns dry and lively, with acidity carrying the finish. Bottle condition will shape the experience at this age; stand upright before opening and decant only if the wine appears sound.

About Château Lagrange
On Saint-Julien's western side, Château Lagrange occupies a single sweep of vineyard, with roots reaching to the Middle Ages and vines documented from the early sixteenth century. The estate gained Third Growth status in the 1855 classification; its Tuscan-style tower was built in 1845. A long restoration of the vineyards, cellars and château followed the property's acquisition in 1983. Today roughly 118 hectares of red-wine vines rise across two gravelly hills over clay-limestone subsoil. The grand vin is based on Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Petit Verdot. Its grapes are harvested by hand and fermented parcel by parcel; the wine is then selected and aged in barrels.
