AboutWarramate
Jack and June Church founded Warramate in 1970 on a north-facing slope at Gruyere in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. Its old Cabernet Sauvignon and other vines are tended by hand and grown without irrigation, above the neighbouring Yarra Yering vineyard. Winemaker Sarah Crowe and viticulturist Andrew George guide the estate. The range includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet-based wines, as well as sparkling wine.
Warramate 2022 Syrah
A graceful cool-climate Syrah, opening with violets, ripe plum and a cool wash of blue fruit. Pink peppercorn and subtle stalky spice bring savoury lift, while the medium-bodied palate is succulent, smooth and finely layered. Gentle firmness through the tannins keeps the generous fruit precise. Serve just below room temperature with lamb, grilled mushrooms or peppered steak.
