AboutVazisubani Estate
Vazisubani Estate occupies a palace and vineyards established in Kakheti in 1891 by Sulkhan Chavchavadze. After decades of abandonment, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze revived the estate in 2013, replanting vineyards and restoring the nineteenth-century wine cellar.
The estate now grows Georgian varieties including Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Kisi, Khikhvi and Kakhuri Mtsvane on 35 hectares beneath the Caucasus foothills. Its qvevri wines ferment and age in clay vessels buried underground, with the skins and lees retained during the process.
Vazisubani Estate 2020 Kisi Qvevri
Georgian White
Apricot, dried fruit and roasted nuts define this dry amber wine. Estate-grown Kisi is hand-picked and partly destemmed, then fermented spontaneously with native yeast in qvevri. Skin contact lasts six months; the profile is full-bodied, supple and rich in fine tannins. The wine is unfiltered, with bentonite as the only fining material, and records 12.5 percent alcohol.
Vazisubani Estate 2021 Saperavi Qvevri
Georgian Red
Ripe cherry, mulberry and blackberry open, followed by pomegranate, liquorice and dark spice. The palate is full and savoury, with concentrated fruit balanced by bright acidity and firm, well-shaped tannins. Cocoa, balsamic tones and a restrained earthy note add depth through the middle. Structured without feeling heavy, it finishes long with dark fruit, spice and a measured bitter edge.
