AboutUggiano
Winemaker Giuseppe Losapio established Uggiano at the Castle of Montespertoli in the early 1970s, moving the cellar to San Vincenzo a Torri in 1976. Long-serving colleagues Giacomo Fossati, Fabio Martelli and Daniele Prosperi now lead the winery.
Sangiovese is central to its Tuscan wines, with home vineyards on the hills around Montespertoli, Montelupo Fiorentino and San Casciano. Large Slavonian oak casks and smaller French barrels give the winemakers a choice of vessels for ageing.
Uggiano 2023 Sangiovese Syrah Toscana IGT
Fresh redcurrant, morello cherry, ripe plum and bramble appear with warm spice and a hint of oak. Supple tannins and bright acidity meet in a smooth finish. Sangiovese and Syrah are fermented separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel. The Syrah spends nine months in French oak, while the Sangiovese remains in stainless steel before blending. This Tuscan red is sustainably produced and vegan.
