AboutSilver Oak
Ray Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer founded Silver Oak in 1972, starting in a former dairy barn in Oakville. Their focus was Cabernet Sauvignon aged in American oak. The Duncan family became sole owners in 2001, and Ray’s sons David and Tim continue to lead the company.
Silver Oak makes Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley and Alexander Valley and farms more than 400 vineyard acres across the two regions. Both winery buildings have achieved LEED Platinum certification.

Chocolate and graphite lead, with cassis and blackberry adding a quieter dark-fruit core. The palate is smooth and composed, layering blackcurrant, raspberry and orange zest with nuanced vanilla, cocoa and a gentle savoury edge. Fine tannins keep the Cabernet measured as the fruit and oak detail settle into a lingering finish.

Ruby colour and a magenta rim accompany cassis, blackberry, vanilla, sage and spearmint. Potpourri, bramble and raspberry are also present. The finish is juicy, with chewy tannins and medium length. The blend combines 94.6 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, four percent Merlot, and one-half percent each of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, with 0.4 percent Malbec. It matured for twenty-four months in American oak, half of it new.
