AboutSébastien Riffault
Sébastien Riffault makes wine at the family estate he shares with his father, Étienne, in Sury-en-Vaux, north of Sancerre. He began his own label in the early 2000s, working vineyards on limestone and clay.
His farming follows biodynamic methods, with a horse used to plough selected parcels. He harvests Sauvignon Blanc later than is usual in Sancerre, seeking riper fruit, then ferments with native yeasts and gives the wines time to mature.
Sébastien Riffault 2017 Auksinis Maceration Sancerre
French White
Deeply textured and savoury, with ripe apricot, candied citrus and honey joined by clove, flint and a subtle oxidative note. Extended skin contact gives the dry palate amber-wine depth, while lively acidity and mineral tension keep it focused. The long, spicy finish suits washed-rind cheese, roast poultry or richer vegetable dishes.
Sébastien Riffault 2017 Akméniné Sancerre
French White
Textured and distinctive, with red apple, orange and pineapple layered over ginger, warm spice and a clear mineral note. The palate is dry and gently oxidative, bringing ripe fruit and savoury depth together with measured acidity rather than sharpness. A long, earthy finish suits roast poultry, richer fish, washed-rind cheese or vegetable dishes with browned edges.
