AboutSazerac Company
Sazerac Company’s story reaches from a French Cognac family to nineteenth-century New Orleans, where the Sazerac name became attached to a coffee house and, eventually, the city’s celebrated cocktail. Facing Prohibition, Thomas Handy and Company reincorporated as Sazerac Company in 1919 and returned to the drinks business after repeal in 1933. In 1992, the company acquired the George T Stagg Distillery in Kentucky, which was renamed Buffalo Trace in 1999.
Today the company has distilleries in the United States, Canada and Europe, and a range that includes whisky, liqueurs and other spirits. Its Old Montreal Distillery joined the group in 2011, and Canadian whisky distillation returned there in 2018 after an absence of decades.
