AboutSanwa Shurui

Sanwa Shurui was formed in Oita in 1958 when three family businesses joined together; a fourth family joined the following year. Its iichiko barley shochu made its debut in 1979, taking a name that means ‘it’s great’ in the Oita dialect.

iichiko is made from two-row barley, koji and soft water naturally filtered through Oita’s volcanic rock. The range uses single distillation at either low or atmospheric pressure, producing spirits that can then be blended.

Sweet melon and watermelon aromas lead a delicate palate with pear and orchard-fruit hints. Made from selected barley, barley koji and clear water, this single-distilled honkaku shochu remains soft and clean through the finish. Enjoy it chilled, over ice, with water or in a highball; its gentle grain character also suits tempura, sushi and other savoury dishes.
