Real Companhia Velha was founded by royal charter in 1756 and helped mark out the Douro wine region between 1758 and 1761. The Silva Reis family has led the company since 1960. Five Douro estates supply its Port and unfortified wines, while the historic Vila Nova de Gaia cellars remain a home for ageing Port.
