AboutQuinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo appears in records from the Douro’s demarcation in 1756, and its original hillside winery dates to 1764. Its name recalls a riverside chapel and the devotion of boatmen navigating a dangerous stretch of the Douro. The Amorim family, known for its cork business, took over in 1999; Luisa Amorim now leads the estate.

The property spans more than 120 hectares of steep schist ground in the Cima Corgo, with its vineyards divided into 41 plots. Seven hectares of century-old vines grow in mixed plantings behind traditional stone walls. Restored granite winemaking vats remain in use alongside concrete tanks in the updated cellar.

Concentrated and firmly structured, with a mature profile that carries weight without losing composure. The palate shows breadth and gravity, while a clear sense of tension keeps the texture from feeling heavy. Richness is held in balance by freshness and measured sweetness. The finish is long, precise and persistent, emphasizing structure, balance and quiet authority over overt power.
