Project Hop
Project Hop
AboutProject Hop
Project Hop began in British Columbia in 2017 as brewer and environmental scientist Nathan Vadeboncoeur’s way of giving hop growers clearer feedback on crop quality. His experiments explore how hop variety, farm and growing season influence beer.
The project is hosted at Good Cheer Brewing, where the research is shared publicly. Vadeboncoeur also recreates historical beers from period recipes and brewing literature, exploring the malts, hops, fermentation methods and water chemistry of their time.
Project Hop 1823 IPA Single Can
Built as a careful recreation of an early Burton-upon-Trent IPA, this is made from pale malt, East Kent Goldings hops and yeast, then refermented in the can. Extended time in oak is used to echo the long sea voyage once faced by export beer, giving the release a firmly historical frame. Serve cool with aged cheddar, roast pork, meat pies or other savoury dishes that suit a traditional hop-led ale.
