AboutProduttori del Barbaresco
Barbaresco’s cooperative story began in 1894, when Domizio Cavazza brought nine growers together in the Cantine Sociali di Barbaresco to bottle Nebbiolo under the village name. After that first cellar closed in the 1920s, parish priest Don Fiorino Marengo revived the idea in 1958 with nineteen farming families, creating the cooperative that exists today. More than fifty member families cultivate vineyards across the Barbaresco area.
The cellar accepts only its members’ Nebbiolo, using younger-vine fruit for Langhe Nebbiolo and reserving the main work for Barbaresco. In strong vintages, nine named vineyard areas are bottled separately as Riservas. Extended contact between the juice and grape skins, followed by ageing in large oak vessels, is central to the winemaking.
