AboutPietradolce
Michele Faro founded Pietradolce in 2005 at Solicchiata, on Mount Etna’s northern flank. The estate farms about thirty hectares on the northern slopes and a further two on the eastern side, at roughly 650 to 950 metres above sea level. Carricante and Nerello Mascalese grow in freely draining, sandy volcanic soils; many parcels retain bush-trained vines from before phylloxera, some ninety to 150 years old.
The vineyards are cultivated organically, and the grapes are picked by hand and sorted before fermentation. Fermentation takes place in tulip-shaped concrete vats, and the red wines mature in oak in an underground cellar.
Pietradolce 2024 Etna Bianco
Lemon verbena, sage and salted pistachio create a delicate, distinctly volcanic aroma. The palate is sleek and bone-dry, driven by racy acidity and a firm linear precision that keeps the citrus and herbal notes finely drawn. Mineral and quietly savoury through the finish, it is a polished match for oysters, lobster salad or simply grilled fish.
Pietradolce 2022 Etna Rosato
Bright salmon colour accompanies wild red berry, strawberry, redcurrant and raspberry, with rose, sweet fruit and delicate spice. The palate is fresh, balanced and mineral. Nerello Mascalese grows on Etna’s northern volcanic slopes between 600 and 700 metres. Grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed, with traditional rosé vinification. The wine has fourteen percent alcohol.
Pietradolce 2021 Archineri Etna Bianco DOC
The aroma is full and distinct, with white peach, lemon, lime and sage. The mouthfeel is intense, with stony, chalky minerals and fine texture from gentle lees stirring. Carricante comes from vines more than a century old, planted on sandy loam above 850 metres on Etna. Grapefruit, herbs, freshness and a long finish are also present. The wine contains 13.5% alcohol.
