AboutPedra Cancela
Pedra Cancela began with João Paulo Gouveia’s family vineyards around Oliveira de Barreiros in Portugal’s Dão region. Gouveia combined generations of family experience with formal training, making the first Pedra Cancela wine from the 2000 harvest. Now part of Lusovini, the project has Gouveia leading the vineyard work and Sónia Martins, with more than twenty years of experience, overseeing winemaking.
Its 75 hectares lie around Viseu, Mangualde, Nelas and Carregal do Sal, including 19 hectares of vines more than fifty years old. At the 15-hectare Vinha da Fidalga, the team is recovering traditional Dão grape varieties, including some that had nearly disappeared.

Austere aromas recall quince and field herbs, while tart apple appears in the flavour profile. The aromas remain closed and youthful. Fine acidity runs through a full-bodied, well-structured palate. The finish remains austere, vibrant and broad. The wine is made entirely from Cerceal Branco in Portugal’s Dão region. Alcohol is twelve percent. Balance and pronounced character are also present.
